The 'rants are here

My parents arrived this past week. It has been good to have them around. Not only are they a great distraction, but to have someone help with the cooking is a big relief. They even bought us some toilet paper. A neccessary item that a PG girl really goes through quickly. ;)

They came to visit my work and have lunch yesterday. It was fun to show them around and have them meet some co-workers. They have also been popular with my friends and had their first baby fix with baby Shay the day they arrived. They are hoping to see baby Miles soon and also meet with the neighbors. Apparently their social calendar is busier than ours!

We have tried to fill our schedule a bit. Last night I had a jewelry party at my neighbors, tonight we have a "spring dinner" with friends (although you wouldn't guess it with the weather!), then we have a marriage care session on Sunday. I wonder if I will make it to all the events. We have been "tentative maybes" for each one. I have a hair appt Monday, so hopefully I'll be lookin' good for our Tuesday due date!

Last appt... I hope.

I had my last scheduled Midwife appt. I have been in a special group here. There were 10 couples who met with a midwife for the scheduled appt. We mostly had group questions and support along with an individual check-in with the midwife. Well, all but 3 couples have now given birth. I am the next due date, so hopefully I'll be next. I did schedule a regular appt for next Thursday, but maybe I won't make it!

Updates from today:
*Baby is still very low with head down and in a great position.
*Heart beat was in the 130-140's. For those keeping track of the old wives tale, our little girl has now turned into a boy! First time the heart rate has been lower than 150. We'll see if that one rings true. The heart rate is in a great range though and doing well.
*My group B strep test was negative. This is very good and means that I don't have to be hooked up to an IV during labor at the hospital and I have the freedom to move! Woohoo!

Now, all we need is a baby!

Maternity Photo Re-post

I thought I would repost these for those who haven't dug around in our blog for a while. More pictures in earlier posts.

Not fit to be parents...still growing up ourselves!

R and I got to spent some time a getting maternity photos done by Michael Cleary, a friend of ours. I was 34 weeks at the time.

CC (Crazy Commenter) C (me)

CC "How is mama doing?"
C "Fine"
CC "Looks like you have that nice pregnancy glow in your face. You are really filling out!"
C "thanks?"

Now the fun response that came to me later on...

C "You should see the pregnancy glow in my ankles!"

*******************

CC *touches belly* then... "Mind if I touch your belly?"
C Well, it may have worked out better to ask beforehand, but whatever. I have no personal boundries.
********************

CC "I can tell you are really filling out in your face, have you had a lot of swelling?"
C "no, not too bad"
CC "oh."

Yes, actually I am almost 10months pregnant, this happens!
********************

My personal fav:
CC "How are you feeling?"

and so many possible responses:
C "I haven't slept since January, I am crazy with hormones and sleep deprived!"
C "Like this baby may never come out"
C "Pregnant"
C "Like a duck with a couple broken legs who has been fattened up for a big feast"
*******************

Other than that... I am loving most of every minute and can't wait to meet Baby Bliss!

Trying to prepare

So I am trying to be good about preparing for our lives completely changing. But how can you really prepare for something you have never done before? You can read a lot of books, talk to a lot of friends and read the internet constantly, but it never quite does the preparation any justice.

One tip I really thought was a great idea, was to prepare meals ahead of time so you could freeze them for when baby comes. Well, I've been sort of working on that. I have leftover Easter ham, a casserole and lasagne. Also some cookie dough (which may not make it to baby!).

Here comes the issue. I did my grocery shopping for those meals, prepared them, froze them and now our fridge is empty and I am to tired to cook. So, now I wonder. Is it better to eat them now or hold on to them for when baby comes? I don't have a lot of motivation or energy to cook now and I am still working, which makes it more difficult. When baby comes, I'll have my mom's help and perhaps the help of some generous cookers out there.

So much for a good idea! ;)

Other updates:
* I've started shorter days at work this past week and now am done by 3pm and home sleeping by 4. Kind of messes with my night sleep, but I sleep so soundly in the afternoon, I don't want to stop!
* I've had some nausea this week. Not unbearable, just uncomfortable.
* Hot flashes during contractions. These are most embarassing while in the middle of a conversation with a co-worker.
* The name ideas continue to come in. I thought we were set this past weekend but then last night, R decides that the girl idea sounds better for a second child then a 1st. Ugg. I don't even understand that! ;)
